National Student Clearinghouse Partners with the Federation of State Medical Boards for Secure Electronic Delivery of Physician Transcripts

Aug 18, 2016 | Media Center, Press Releases

HERNDON, VA (Aug. 18, 2016) – Physicians and physician assistants now have a timelier, easier, and more secure way to deliver transcripts directly to the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB).

The National Student Clearinghouse, the nation’s leading provider of higher education verifications and electronic record exchanges, will provide instant and secure delivery of transcripts in an electronic format directly to FSMB. This newly established workflow between the Clearinghouse and FSMB will substantially enhance delivery times and eliminate the risk of mailed transcripts being lost or delayed.

Any medical school or college of health sciences that offers Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or Physician Assistant degrees, and designates the National Student Clearinghouse as their transcript services provider, can have this new service immediately available to them. Once a transcript order is placed, the electronic transcript is sent directly to FSMB and incorporated into the Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS) at no additional cost to the requesting physician or physician assistant.

“Streamlining administrative and licensing processes for physicians and physician assistants is an important part of our mission,” said Mike Dugan, Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President of FSMB. “This partnership is a key milestone for FSMB. We see this as just the first step and look forward to additional future enhancements for our user community.”

This partnership represents a continued commitment by the Clearinghouse to broaden the number of data exchange work streams available to the higher education community.

“We are very excited to welcome FSMB into the Clearinghouse family of data exchange partners,” stated Rick Torres, President and CEO, National Student Clearinghouse. “This partnership allows the nation’s medical colleges and universities to better serve their students and alumni, and the medical community in a trusted, secure and private environment.”

About the National Student Clearinghouse®

The National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit formed in 1993, is the trusted source for and leading provider of higher education verifications and electronic education record exchanges, handling more than 1.4 billion education record transactions annually.

The Clearinghouse serves as a single point of contact for the collection and timely exchange of accurate and comprehensive enrollment, degree, and certificate records on behalf of its more than 3,600 participating higher education institutions, which represent 98 percent of all students in public and private U.S. institutions. The Clearinghouse also provides thousands of high schools and districts with continuing collegiate enrollment, progression, and completion statistics on their alumni.

Through its verification, electronic exchange, and reporting services, the Clearinghouse saves the education community cumulatively over $750 million annually. Most Clearinghouse services are provided to colleges and universities at little or no charge, including enhanced transcript and research services, enabling institutions to redistribute limited staff and budget resources to more important student service efforts. Clearinghouse services are designed to facilitate an institution’s compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, The Higher Education Act, and other applicable laws. The Clearinghouse has signed the Student Privacy Pledge and is the first recipient of ikeepsafe.org’s FERPA compliance badge, which was awarded to its StudentTracker for High Schools service.
