BridgeValley and Eastern West Virginia Become First Community Colleges in West Virginia to Activate eTranscripts
By West Virginia Network (WVNET) Staff Member Barbara Long
On April 1, BridgeValley Community & Technical College and Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College became the first community colleges in West Virginia to activate eTranscripts. The two colleges join nearly 150 other institutions nationwide that have deployed eTranscripts since its introduction in 2014. eTranscripts, developed through the Clearinghouse’s strategic partnership with Ellucian, provides official, certified, electronic transcripts through a fast, secure, and environmentally-friendly delivery method.
“We continually strive to provide efficient and convenient solutions to our students,” said James Fauver, BridgeValley’s Chief Student Systems Officer. “There are several benefits to offering a service like eTranscripts at BridgeValley. The primary advantage is that students can easily initiate a request to send their transcripts to a potential employer, university school admissions office or other recipients anywhere in the world, and have it delivered the same day the order is placed.”
eTranscripts automates daily processes, such as student authentication, hold identification, and transcript production. Students in good standing can request and receive official transcripts within minutes, as opposed to hours or days.
Eastern’s Chief Information Officer Ron Hamilton appreciates how the college benefits from this highly secure delivery method, which reduces transcript printing costs, saves on staff resources, decreases transcript fraud, and facilitates compliance with FERPA.

eTranscripts works by creating a secure interface between Clearinghouse Transcript Ordering and the institution’s administrative system, Banner by Ellucian. “We’ve seen so many cobbled together so‐called integration solutions through the years,” observed Fauver. “eTranscripts is a sleek and elegant solution built to seamlessly integrate with Banner.”
Several other West Virginia institutions are in the planning/implementation stage with eTranscripts, and WVNET is busy helping other Banner-hosted clients deploy the solution.
